DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion Scott Steckly and Rookie of the Year contender Noel Dowler have been nominated for the 10th annual Inside Track Motorsports News Readers’ Choice Awards which honors Canada’s top racers of 2011.
Steckly, who won his second series championship last season, is in the running for Canadian Stock-Car Racer of the Year. He collected three victories, nine top-five and 10 top-10 finishes en route to the title in which he outdistanced 2010 champion D.J. Kennington by 79 points. Kennington collected the Canadian Stock-Car Racer of the Year award a season ago.
Dowler, 18, came into the 2011 season with virtually no stock-car experience and made improvement each and every time out before finishing 15th in the final point standings. For his effort, he is among the nominees for Up and Coming Canadian Stock-Car Racer. Dowler finished third in the series rookie standings behind NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie of the Year Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and runner-up Isabelle Tremblay.
